Salivary Gland Problems
Common symptoms of blocked salivary glands include: a sore or painful lump under the tongue, pain or swelling below the jaw or ears, pain that increases when eating.
The parotid glands are the largest salivary glands and are located on either side of the mouth and in the front of both ears. These glands produce saliva, which help moisten the mouth, initiate food digestion, and protect teeth from decaying.
There are a number of ailments and diseases that can affect your salivary glands which may be related to various factors. These factors include infections, obstructions, and in the most severe cases, tumors.
Symptoms of parotid problems include but are not limited to blocked saliva flow, pain in the glands, swelling in the glands, difficulty eating, and growths inside of the glands or neck. Some conditions may go away with time or with antibiotics while others may require more serious treatment, such as surgery.
Depending on the underlying cause and progression of the parotid problem, Dr. Namazie will take either a medical or surgical approach for treatment.
