Facial Fat Transfer

Facial Fat Transfer

Fat grafting is a procedure that creates a more youthful appearance and corrects imperfections, such as scars. Fat is removed from one part of the body and injected into the face. It is most commonly used in the lips, near the mouth, under the eyes, and in the cheek areas.

Facial Fat Transfer

Facial fat transfer is a more permanent alternative to temporary fillers for those who wish to restore a more youthful appearance to their face. The use of your own tissues rather than a foreign substance means that the results are long lasting and appear natural looking. The surgery has a high success rate and can be performed on patients of all ages.

If you view pictures of yourself from years ago, you have an idea of what this procedure can do. Signs of facial aging are reversed as areas of volume loss are restored. Dr. Namazie performs fat transfers to restore volume and rejuvenate the face to its former youthful appearance.

Lip Augmentation

Lip Augmentation

Whether you were born with thin lips or your lips are thinning due to the natural aging process, there are many ways to enhance them or restore soft tissue loss.

Lip Augmentation

Lip injections using natural or synthetic fillers can keep your lips plump for months at a time. Lip implants and other surgical procedures can also be performed for a more permanent solution.

Patients have several options when it comes to enhancing one of the most prominent facial features. These options include:

Fat Transfer

Plumping the lips via a fat transfer begins with liposuction on the patient to garner the fat from other places in the body. After the fat is harvested, it is cleaned and made pure before being injected in the lips.

SMAS Lip Implants With Tissue from a Facelift

SMAS is an acronym for the superficial musculoaponeurotic system. The SMAS layer is a deep facial layer that exists between the muscles of the face and the skin on the outside of the face. Made up of fat, collagen, tissue, and fibers, the SMAS layer is excised during a facelift procedure when there are excess amounts of the substance, which can then be used for lip augmentation.

Lip Augmentation with Autologen

Autologen injections represent collagen that has been extracted from the patient’s body and injected into the lips. The human collagen injections are comprised of collagen that will last up to five years in cryo-freezer storage in a liquid form, so the patient can continually use their collagen as a lip injection source.

Vermillion Advancement of the Lip:

A vermillion advancement of the lip is a surgical procedure, which makes the volume of the upper and lower lip appear larger, but not by using lip fillers. During the surgery, the vermillion, also called the “white roll” of the lip line, is lifted by the plastic surgeon to create a better balance for the colorful portion of the lips.

You might choose to have lip augmentation if:

  • Your lips have always been thin and disappear when you smile
  • Your lips have become thinner and less full with age
  • You feel self conscious about how your lips look
  • Having fuller lips will help balance out your face

Cheek Implants

Cheek Implants/ Cheek Augmentation

Valid surgical options for augmenting and enhancing the cheeks are fat grafting/transfer (where a patient’s own fat is used) or the use of solid cheek implants. A nonsurgical option is the use of injectable fillers to enhance the cheeks, which is covered on the dermal fillers page.

Why Cheek Implants?

The goal of cheek augmentation is to add volume or lift to the cheeks. Some people are bothered by their cheeks losing volume, or even sagging, with age. Others never develop the desired volume in their cheeks and are bothered by cheeks that may be considered flat or thin.

Cheek implants can restore a more natural appearance to the face after reconstructive surgery for cancer, other illnesses, or traumatic injury. Facial implants are solid implants typically made of medical silicon, which has a long, established record of safety. Implants can be custom-made to fit your anatomy, and you can choose to have only one, to balance asymmetries. Dr. Namazie may choose from a variety of implants, depending on the desired approach.

Cheek implants can:

  • Create a more youthful appearance
  • Create balance, symmetry and proportion to the entire face
  • Improve facial contours
  • Correct imperfections caused by injury

Chin Implant Surgery (Genioplasty)

Chin Implant Surgery (Genioplasty)

Chin enhancement surgery, also referred to as chin augmentation or genioplasty, is typically performed to sharpen facial features and create more defined contours around the neck and jowls.

Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation can be used to define an underdeveloped chin, or give it more prominence. Chin implant surgery can also be combined with other surgeries such as rhinoplasty, a facelift or neck shaping to enhance the proportions of the face further.

Chin implants are small, solid devices made from a biocompatible material, usually silicone, which have been molded to fit around a patient’s chin bone. Chin implants vary in size and contour; Dr. Namazie will help you choose an implant that will achieve your desired degree of enhancement and provide the most natural looking result.

Chin implant surgery can:

  • Correct a weak or recessed chin
  • Improve definition of the neck and jawline
  • Help reduce the appearance of a full or “double” chin caused by a small chin bone
  • Enhance the facial profile by increasing the projection of the lower face
  • Camouflage early jowl formation for a more youthful appearance
  • Increase the width of the lower face by widening the chin
  • Lengthen the face by increasing the vertical chin height
  • Diminish the appearance of dimpling often caused by a loose chin
  • Create balance, symmetry, and proportion to the entire face

Endoscopic Brow Lift/ Forehead Lift

Endoscopic Brow Lift/ Forehead Lift

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift or forehead rejuvenation, is a cosmetic procedure intended to raise the brows. A brow lift improves the appearance of the forehead, the brow, and the area around the eyes by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces sagging skin and wrinkles. To perform an endoscopic brow lift, a plastic surgeon uses small incisions and sutures to reduce wrinkles and sagging skin. The incisions for the endoscopic forehead lift are very small and are concealed within the hairline.

You might choose to have a brow lift if you have:

  • A low, sagging brow position that creates a tired, sad, or grumpy appearance
  • Brow asymmetry
  • Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
  • Frown lines or furrows between the eyebrows or across the top of your nose
  • Excess skin or fatty tissue hanging over your eyes

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

As you age, your eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them become weak. As a result, excess fat may accumulate above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes.

Eyelid Surgery

Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems and make your eyes appear younger and more alert.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) can treat the following:

  • Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
  • Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Facelift

Facelift

A facelift, technically known as a rhytidectomy, is a type of cosmetic surgery procedure used to give a more youthful facial appearance. There are multiple surgical techniques. Schedule an appointment to learn more.

What Does a Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Do?

Facelifts can produce a dramatic improvement for a more youthful appearance. However, facelifts do not stop the aging process; in time, signs of aging will gradually appear once again. Further, facelifts will not rejuvenate the brow, eyelids, nose, and some of the midface. Patients who want to improve these areas may consider combining a facelift with a brow lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Injectable soft-tissue fillers, facial implants, and skin resurfacing can also enhance the effects of a facelift.

Facelifts are most effective for patients who want to correct:

  • Midface sagging
  • Deep creases under the eyes
  • Deep creases between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • Jowls due to loss of muscle tone
  • Sagging areas of fat
  • Loose skin and fat under the chin and jaw

In general, a facelift involves elevating the skin and tightening the underlying tissues and muscles. Fat in the face and neck may be sculpted, removed or redistributed. Then, facial skin is re-draped over the newly repositioned contours of the face, excess skin is removed, and the wound is stitched or taped closed.

Neck Lift

How a Neck Lift Can Help

The neck lift procedure removes excess skin and fat around your jawline and addresses age-related wrinkling and creasing in this area, to provide a smoother, slimmer profile. A neck lift enhances the appearance of the neck by tightening the skin and underlying neck muscles and improving the contour of the jawline.

Loose skin and neck banding are usually associated with aging. Hereditary factors can also cause even younger men and women to lose definition in their jawline and neck. Significant weight loss can also contribute to sagging or hanging skin, requiring a neck lift.

You might choose to have a neck lift if you:

  • Have lost the distinct jawline of your youth and want to restore it
  • Have excess skin and wrinkles on your neck
  • Desire a sleeker neck with a distinct jawline that separates your neck from your face
  • You have excess fat in your neck
  • Your neck has developed folds and lines

A neck lift can:

  • Significantly improve your neck and jawline
  • Be done as a stand-alone procedure if other facial surgery is not needed or desired
  • Provide you with a more youthful profile

Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift begins with a small, inconspicuous incision directly below the chin (platysmaplasty) and/or in front of the ear lobes, looping behind the ears and ending in the scalp near the back of the neck (cervicoplasty). Sagging skin is trimmed away and lifted during cervicoplasty; loose muscles that cause the “bands” around the neck to be prominent are tightened during platysmaplasty. In some cases, it is necessary to perform only one of the two procedures. Liposuction is sometimes used to remove excess fat; if so, it is performed before the neck lift. Incisions are glued and/or sutured closed.

A neck lift usually takes 2 to 4 hours to perform, and the patient is given either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Most neck lifts are performed on an outpatient basis. Bandages covering incisions are removed after a few days; sutures are typically removed after 7 to 10 days.
